What Polaris is
Polaris gives AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex the exact parts of your codebase they need, while your code stays on your computer.
Polaris is ORYVOX's MCP server for AI coding agents. Instead of reading whole files and burning tokens, your agent asks Polaris for the original excerpts it needs: a symbol, the code related to a change, the relevant lines of a log, a value in a large JSON file.
It works with any MCP client, including Claude Code and Codex (CLI and IDE).
The tools
| Tool | What the agent gets |
|---|---|
oryvox_get_task_context | For a multi-step task: the files and excerpts most likely involved, in one call. |
oryvox_search_code | Relevant original code excerpts for a question. |
oryvox_find_symbol | Where a class, function or constant is defined, by exact name. |
oryvox_get_related_code | Callers, usages and tests of a symbol. |
oryvox_fetch_details | The exact lines around an excerpt, when more is needed. |
oryvox_get_project_context | What the project is and how it's built. |
oryvox_get_changes | What changed recently in the repository. |
oryvox_analyze_logs | The important lines of a large log. |
oryvox_query_data | Values from large JSON or XML files. |
Every result says which revision of your code it came from. If the code changed since, the agent is told to search again.
Your code stays yours
| Part | Runs on | Holds |
|---|---|---|
| The local component | Your computer | Your code and its live index, your credentials. |
| ORYVOX app | ORYVOX | Connections, tokens (as digests), project names, policies and call metadata. |
| Remote service (optional) | ORYVOX servers | A ZIP snapshot you upload and its read-only index, for teams without a local copy. |
Source code and tool results never go to the ORYVOX app. It receives metadata only: which tool, how long, how big. .gitignore, .oryvoxignore and built-in secret rules keep secrets and generated files out of the index.
Results are data, never instructions: Polaris marks them so your agent doesn't act on text found inside your code.
